President Donald Trump has stirred global conversations with a bold statement to countries dependent on oil shipments from the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump warned nations, including the United Kingdom, to either buy oil from the United States or take control of the strategic waterway themselves.
Trump wrote: “ All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!,” the statement added.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world’s oil flows, has been a flashpoint in the ongoing tensions between U.S./allied forces and Iran. Trump’s remarks come amid rising global fuel prices and growing concerns over energy security in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Nigerian energy experts have weighed in, highlighting that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could directly impact Nigeria’s oil export revenues and domestic fuel supply. “Any prolonged blockage in Hormuz will affect global oil prices and may have ripple effects on our economy,” said an Abuja based oil analyst.
