Yaw Yeboah, a Ghanaian professional footballer, has been handed a lifetime ban from Major League Soccer (MLS) after an investigation found he engaged in extensive gambling activities, including placing bets on matches involving his own team.
The league announced the sanction on Monday, stating that Yeboah violated MLS gambling policies during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Investigators determined that the winger participated in multiple betting activities on soccer matches, including games involving teams he played for at the time.
According to the league, one notable incident involved Yeboah and fellow player Derrick Jones placing a bet on Jones receiving a yellow card during a match between Columbus Crew and the New York Red Bulls on October 19, 2024, a bet that eventually occurred during the game.
The league said the lifetime suspension reflects its strict stance on gambling violations and its commitment to protecting the integrity of the competition.
