Nigeria’s Super Eagles returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Iran national football team in an international friendly played in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.
Goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams sealed the win for Nigeria in a lively encounter that served as part of both teams’ preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Nigeria started brightly and took the lead just six minutes into the match. Simon cut in from the left flank before unleashing a precise finish past Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to give the Super Eagles an early advantage.
Despite dominating large spells of the first half and creating several chances, Nigeria were unable to extend their lead before the break.
The pressure eventually paid off in the second half when Adams doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 61st minute. The forward, stepping in for injured striker Victor Osimhen, calmly finished after being set up by Ademola Lookman.
Iran responded with a goal of their own as striker Mehdi Taremi bundled the ball home from close range following a scramble in the box, setting up a tense finish.
However, the Super Eagles held firm defensively to secure the victory and end the match 2-1 in their favour.
The game forms part of Nigeria’s build-up fixtures during the March international window, with another friendly against Jordan scheduled in the coming days.
