Kenya has officially paid $30 million as its hosting fee to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a major step in the country’s preparations for the prestigious continental tournament.
The payment was confirmed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which noted that the funds are part of Kenya’s commitment alongside co-hosts to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements for staging the tournament.
The 2027 AFCON, which will feature top national teams from across the continent, is set to be co-hosted by Kenya and an as-yet-undisclosed partner country. The move to co-host the event underscores Kenya’s growing ambition to be a key player in African football and boost sports tourism in the country.
FKF officials said the funds will contribute to upgrading stadiums, training facilities, and other infrastructure to meet CAF standards. “This payment demonstrates Kenya’s commitment to hosting a world-class tournament and ensuring a safe and memorable experience for teams, officials, and fans,” a federation spokesperson said.
