The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu will not intervene again in the political crisis involving Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing the President’s latest peace move as his final involvement in the dispute.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT, days after President Tinubu hosted both him and Governor Fubara at the Presidential Villa in Abuja in a renewed effort to restore peace.
According to Wike, the President acted in a fatherly capacity to resolve tensions between the Rivers State executive and the legislature but stressed that such intervention should not become a recurring occurrence.
“All I can tell you is that Mr President has been very kind to the people of the state. If there seems to be a problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father, he really has to intervene,” Wike said.
He noted that this was the second time President Tinubu had stepped in to mediate the Rivers crisis, expressing hope that it would be the last.
“I remember this is the second time Mr President has intervened. I believe, by the grace of God, this will be the last time. I have told the Assembly to obey Mr President, which I know they will not hesitate to do. I also believe that this is the final time we must be hearing this kind of discourse,” he added.
The political crisis in Rivers State has centred on tensions between Governor Fubara and the state legislature, attracting national attention and prompting repeated calls for reconciliation and stability in the state.
