The media aide to the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Michael Idoko, has formally declared his ambition to contest for a seat in the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Idoko made the declaration on Tuesday after concluding consultations with party leaders, community stakeholders, youths, and residents in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The grassroots politician is seeking to represent Olamaboro Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement announcing his ambition, Idoko said his decision to join the race was driven by concerns over what he described as the lack of meaningful development and dividends of democracy in Olamaboro.
“My decision to contest for the Olamaboro State House of Assembly seat is borne out of a deep concern over the lack of meaningful dividends of democracy in our local government,” he said.
He noted that many communities in the area continue to face challenges such as poor infrastructure, limited opportunities for youth development and inadequate social amenities.
“For too long, many communities in Olamaboro have continued to struggle with inadequate infrastructure, limited opportunities for youth development and insufficient social amenities that should ordinarily improve the lives of our people,” Idoko stated.
Supporters of the aspirant described him as a bridge between the people and the political system, citing his longstanding involvement in grassroots advocacy and community development.
Speaking further on his ambition, Idoko stressed that leadership should go beyond political rhetoric and focus on service, accessibility and meaningful representation.
“Leadership should be about service, representation and ensuring that the voices and needs of the people are heard and addressed,” he said.
According to him, his aspiration is not merely political but aimed at bridging the gap between government policies and the realities faced by ordinary citizens.
“My aspiration is driven by the desire to bridge this gap. I am committed to advocating policies, projects and programmes that will bring tangible development to Olamaboro, empower our youths and women, and ensure that our communities receive their fair share of government attention,” he added.
Idoko also noted that he had engaged with youths, women, elders and traditional leaders across wards in the local government during his consultations, which helped him better understand the pressing needs of the people.
He emphasised that effective legislation must reflect the daily realities of citizens and urged elected representatives to maintain consistent engagement with their constituents.
“I believe legislation should directly reflect the realities of the people and that elected representatives must remain connected to their constituents beyond election seasons,” he said.
The aspirant expressed appreciation to party leaders, traditional institutions and residents who welcomed him during the consultation process, stating that their encouragement strengthened his resolve to pursue the ambition.
He added that under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, he hopes to promote inclusive governance, strengthen democratic values and attract development projects that will improve the livelihoods of residents in Olamaboro.
