The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a newly elected member of its State Executive Committee, Yesiro Karamo, just hours before his planned inauguration.
Karamo, who was elected as the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary during the Lagos State APC congress held on Tuesday, died shortly before he was to be formally inaugurated alongside other members of the state executive council.
The congress, which took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, produced a new executive led by state chairman Cornelius Ojelabi through a consensus arrangement.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Lagos APC described Karamo’s death as a shocking and painful loss to the party.
In a statement issued by the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the party said it received the news of Karamo’s passing with deep sorrow.
“The Lagos State Chapter of the APC received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the sudden demise of our newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro,” the statement read.
The party noted that Karamo’s death came at a time when his energy and commitment to the party were most needed.
“Yesiro’s passing is a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment and passion for progressive politics were most needed,” the statement added.
According to the party, Karamo had recently been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the state executive council and was widely regarded as a loyal and dedicated party member.
“Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party,” the statement said.
The APC further highlighted Karamo’s contributions to the party’s growth and stability in Lagos State, describing him as a vibrant political figure whose enthusiasm and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and party members.
“Though his tenure was tragically cut short, his enthusiasm, humility and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and members alike,” the statement noted.
The Lagos APC added that Karamo would be remembered for his commitment to the progressive cause and his role in strengthening the party’s grassroots structure across the state.
“The Lagos APC stands united in mourning this painful departure. Hon. Karamo Yesiro will be remembered for his service, commitment and belief in the progressive cause,” the party stated.
