The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of the Rivers State House of Assembly by-elections held on Saturday, with major opposition parties absent from the ballot.
The by-elections were conducted to fill vacant seats in Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II.
In Ahoada East Constituency II, APC candidate Napoleon Ukalikpe secured 3,980 votes, defeating Godstime Egor of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 38 votes.
For the Khana Constituency II seat, Bulabari Henrietta Loolo of the APC polled 7,647 votes to emerge victorious, while Anthony Ndor of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) garnered 47 votes.
The Ahoada East II seat became vacant following the resignation of Edison Ehie, who currently serves as Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the Khana II seat was declared vacant after the death of Dinebari Loolo in September 2023.
Notably, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Labour Party (LP) did not appear on the ballot papers for the by-elections, a development that has stirred political discussions within the state.
