The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has categorically debunked a report circulating online which falsely claims that the Commission has released a timetable for the 2027 General Elections, describing the publication as fake, misleading, and entirely unauthentic.
INEC made the clarification in a statement issued on Monday, distancing itself from an article titled “BREAKING: INEC Releases Timetable for 2027 General Elections”, currently being circulated on some digital platforms.
According to the Commission, no official timetable, schedule of activities, or election dates for the 2027 General Elections have been released, stressing that any document or report suggesting otherwise is fabricated and should be completely disregarded.
The electoral body emphasized that the details contained in the false report — including purported election dates, campaign timelines, and party primary windows — are purely speculative and do not reflect INEC’s plans, decisions, or position regarding the 2027 polls.
“The Commission has NOT released any official timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections. Any claim to the contrary is false and misleading,” INEC stated.
INEC further urged the general public, political parties, civil society organisations, the media, and other stakeholders to rely solely on the Commission’s verified and official communication channels for credible information relating to Nigeria’s electoral process.
