Nigerian actress Toyin Abraham has addressed the controversy surrounding her viral encounter with colleague Funke Akindele at a movie premiere in Lagos.
The incident occurred on Sunday during the premiere of The Return of Arinzo, a film produced by Iyabo Ojo. In a video that quickly circulated online, Abraham was seen approaching Akindele’s table to greet her.
However, Akindele appeared not to acknowledge the gesture, keeping her attention elsewhere. Abraham subsequently turned to greet Iyabo Ojo before leaving the area, a moment that sparked widespread reactions across social media.
The clip divided opinions among fans and observers. While some criticised Akindele’s response as disrespectful, others argued that Abraham should have avoided initiating contact if there were unresolved differences between them.
Amid the backlash, Abraham’s husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, publicly showed support for her.
The situation gained further attention after an X user, identified as Oscar Yankee, expressed disappointment over the incident, suggesting that the actress had unintentionally put her fans in an uncomfortable position. The user advised Abraham to be more cautious in similar situations going forward.
Responding to the comment, Abraham issued an apology and assured fans that such an occurrence would not repeat itself.
“It won’t happen again. I’m grateful for my fans and I never want to put them in an awkward position. Thank you for your support, and I promise to handle situations like this better in the future.”
