Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has shared insights into her parenting philosophy, revealing that her main goal is to raise her son, Jamil, to be a kind and respectful young man, particularly in how he treats women.
In a candid interview with content creator Eniola Olanrewaju (Korty EO), the Somebody’s Son singer explained that while she knows her 10-year-old son will make mistakes as he grows, instilling kindness, respect, and empathy remains her top priority.
“It’s very important for me to just make sure he’s a good man. He’s gonna make mistakes, he’s not perfect. At the core of him, I want him to be kind,” Savage said.
Tiwa, who had Jamil with her ex-husband Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun, emphasised teaching him to treat women with respect. “I always tell him, your mom suffer o, make sure you treat any girl like a queen,” she added, explaining that this is a lesson she consistently reinforces.
When asked about his future dreams, Jamil revealed he now aspires to be a professional footballer, moving on from his childhood goal of becoming a gamer. “At first, when I was four, I wanted to be a gamer. Now, I want to be a footballer,” he said.
Jamil also shared his music preferences, noting that while he doesn’t actively listen to his mother’s songs, he hears them when “she’s playing it in the shower,” and prefers artists like Michael Jackson and Kendrick Lamar instead.
