Nigerian actor and filmmaker Timini Egbuson has opened up about the emotional pain of losing his father, Samuel Oyindobra Egbuson, revealing the deep regret he now carries over their unresolved relationship.
The Nollywood star, 38, who announced his father’s passing in January, spoke candidly about his grief during a recent interview on the JayOnAir Podcast. He described the loss as a devastating start to 2026, despite entering the year with optimism.
“It was a fantastic year of 2025. I was very optimistic about 2026. But then on the first of January, I found out that I lost my dad. The positive energy went down. I then used the next few days to recuperate. And I am currently still dealing with it,” he said.
Timini, who is the younger brother of actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande, explained that the loss hit him particularly hard because he had never experienced the death of a close family member before. Although his father had been ill, the family remained hopeful, making the news more painful.
The actor admitted that his grief is deepened by the nature of their relationship, which he described as strained. According to him, one of his major goals for 2026 had been to rebuild that bond — a plan that is now impossible following his father’s death.
“He was sick. But we were hopeful. Honestly, I have never really had to deal with this type of grief before, as I do not think any real close family member has died. And it is actually worse for me because I did not have the best relationship. That was one of the things that I wanted to really work on in 2026,” he said.
Timini also spoke about the emotional challenge of grieving while continuing his professional responsibilities. He revealed that he had to quickly return to work to promote his movie, despite struggling internally.
“What was crazier was that you had to go straight to work. That is one of the things that life teaches you. Life goes on. I have my movie, which I am trying to promote. I need to make happy videos. Meanwhile, I am really burning inside of me.”
He added that his demanding work schedule throughout 2025 contributed to the distance between him and his father a reality he now reflects on with regret.
