The Nigerian DJ Association has announced a temporary ban on songs by Afrobeats star Burna Boy, directing disc jockeys across Nigeria and in the diaspora to remove the singer’s music from their playlists following a reported altercation with DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.
The development comes after allegations surfaced online claiming that Burna Boy and members of his crew were involved in a physical confrontation with DJ Tunez, whose real name is Michael Babatunde Adeyinka.
Eyewitness accounts circulating on social media claimed the incident occurred inside a nightclub during a private gathering, where a disagreement reportedly escalated into a confrontation. Several individuals were said to have been involved, with DJ Tunez allegedly assaulted during the scuffle.
Reacting to the incident, the Nigerian DJ Association issued a statement on its official Instagram page on Tuesday, expressing solidarity with DJ Tunez and urging DJs to stand together in defense of their colleagues.
According to the association, the temporary ban was necessary while it investigates the circumstances surrounding the reported altercation.
“Showing their support for Tunez, the Nigerian DJ Association has issued a press statement to all disc jockeys to avoid playing the singer’s song,” the statement read.
The group emphasised that it places the welfare of DJs at the centre of its operations, insisting that all members deserve equal respect and protection within the entertainment industry.
“Please note: Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL,’ and offering a transparent, personal service to help our DJs and clients achieve their goals and ambitions, both at home and in the diaspora,” the association stated.
It further stressed the importance of fairness and dignity within the profession, adding that discrimination or mistreatment of DJs would not be tolerated.
“The NigerianDJ is fully against the discrimination of any of its members. Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice,” the statement added.
The association also disclosed that its team would conduct a thorough investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez and urged DJs across the country to remain vigilant and maintain professionalism at events.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Burna Boy nor his management team had issued an official response to the allegations or the temporary ban.
