Content creator and philanthropist, Mitchell Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, has broken her silence, issuing a public apology to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Seyi Tinubu and activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, over her recent online conduct. She also apologised to Nigerians at large for what she described as disappointing behaviour, including consuming a substance during a live video session.
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Thursday, King Mitchy said she had reflected on her actions in recent days and was now willing to be held accountable. She admitted that taking a substance during a live broadcast was wrong, especially as many young girls see her as a role model, and acknowledged that she had let a lot of people down.
“For the substance I took on live video, that was very wrong of me because there are young girls that are looking up to be me one day and I know I disappointed a lot of people. That was wrong of me, I was wrong,” she said. She stressed that she understood the gravity of her actions and the negative message they might have sent to her followers.
Addressing Seyi Tinubu, whom she referred to as “my boss ST”, Mitchy said her public disrespect required a public apology. “I know I apologised privately but I did not disrespect you privately, I disrespected you publicly so I want to apologise publicly. I’m so sorry sir. I want you to know that I will never take your support for granted,” she said.
She also tendered an emotional apology to the Ooni of Ife, going on her knees as she spoke. “I’m so sorry, sir. I’m so sorry for bringing your name into this, I’m so sorry daddy,” she said, in an apparent reference to the backlash that followed her decision to share what she claimed was a private chat with the monarch, suggesting that “even this king” had reached out to her.
Turning to VeryDarkMan, Mitchy described him as her “brother” and admitted she had misunderstood his activism. “You’re fighting for Nigerians and we can make Nigeria a better place and I’m sorry for coming at you like that,” she said, adding that after stepping back to reflect, she now saw that he was pursuing a good cause for a better Nigeria. “And you need more supporters, not people to fight you. I’m sorry my brother. Thank you, Nigerians,” she added.
Her apology comes after weeks of controversy that began in late February 2026 when she announced that she had renovated a dilapidated school in six days, arguing that meaningful change could happen quickly where there was genuine intent. The project, however, spiralled into a social media storm after her remarks were widely interpreted as subtle jabs at VeryDarkMan, who in turn accused her of being used as a political pawn to launder the image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The situation further escalated when she shared screenshots of what she described as a private conversation with the Ooni of Ife, declaring that the monarch had contacted her. The move drew criticism from many Nigerians, who accused her of disrespecting the traditional ruler and exploiting his name for clout.
Tensions deepened after VeryDarkMan alleged that Seyi Tinubu was bankrolling Mitchy’s philanthropic projects. Mitchy later claimed that the sustained criticism and harassment led to the loss of her business Instagram account, adding to the strain she was under.
Matters reached a disturbing peak during a live video in which a visibly distressed Mitchy appeared to ingest a substance believed to be bleach, while viewers pleaded with her to stop. Shortly afterwards, a statement posted on her Instagram page by her management claimed she had died at Prime Care Hospital in Abuja after efforts to revive her failed and requested privacy for her family.
The narrative was dramatically reversed when a subsequent post on the same page declared that she was alive and recovering, reading simply: “Michelle is okay now.” Prime Care Hospital also issued a formal statement denying that she had ever been admitted or had died at the facility, describing the death announcement as false and vowing to work with authorities to track the source of the misinformation.
Amid the uproar, Seyi Tinubu released a statement distancing himself from any supposed role in the feud between King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan. He explained that he had met her only once in a public setting, where he provided financial support for her NGO as part of his wider philanthropic activities, and insisted there was no private relationship, secret arrangement or impropriety.
He accused VeryDarkMan of using a dispute he did not start to drag his name into a false narrative and attempt to damage his reputation, stressing that supporting charitable causes should not be turned into a scandal.
