Nkechi Blessing Sunday has spoken out about the growing debate surrounding women’s bodies and cosmetic surgery, saying years of insults and body-shaming played a major role in pushing many women to consider procedures such as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the Nollywood actress criticised what she described as hypocrisy among some men who previously mocked women for their physical appearance but now encourage body positivity and natural beauty.
According to her, persistent ridicule about women’s body shapes created the pressure that eventually led many to seek cosmetic enhancement.
“You people mocked women for years because of their bodies, but now you are the same ones telling them to love themselves the way they are,” she said.
Blessing argued that constant insults directed at women who did not have certain physical features — particularly bigger curves — significantly contributed to the increasing popularity of cosmetic surgeries like BBL.
“Many women went for BBL because of the insults and pressure they received about their bodies. You bullied women for not having big backsides, and now you are telling them not to do surgery,” she added.
The actress also made it clear that she has no plans to alter her body to satisfy public opinion, stressing that criticism or online attacks would not influence her personal decisions.
“No amount of insults or abuse will push me to change my body. This body is my hard work and the success I have achieved,” she said.
She further emphasised that women should be free to make choices about their bodies without facing judgment from society.
“I am proud of my body, and I will not alter it because people talk. Women should be free to make their own decisions about their bodies,” she stated.
However, Blessing noted that if she ever decides to undergo surgery in the future, it would only be for health reasons rather than cosmetic enhancement.
“If I ever decide to do any surgery, it will only be weight-loss surgery. I will not go for enhancement procedures like BBL,” she said, urging people to stop criticising women over their personal choices regarding their bodies.
