Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has condemned the recent deadly bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the attacks as senseless and a violation of the sanctity of human life. At least 25 people were killed in multiple blasts across the city on Monday.
Speaking on Tuesday at the closing session of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja, Shettima expressed grief over the victims and called for divine justice for those responsible.
“May the lives of innocent souls, 25 of them that lost their lives in Maiduguri rest in peace. May Allah grant their souls eternal rest and reward them with Aljannah Firdaus, and grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses,” he said.
The Vice President emphasised that no religion condones the killing of innocent people, urging that those behind the attacks either find guidance or be removed from the earth. “Whatever is motivating them, may Allah either guide them onto the right path or vanish them from the surface of the earth,” he added.
Shettima also urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country and for the administration of President Bola Tinubu, asking for wisdom, courage, sincerity, and fairness in governance. He reflected on the lessons of Ramadan, highlighting humility, accountability, and moral discipline as essential for leaders and citizens alike.
The Vice President further encouraged Muslims to sustain the ethical values of Ramadan beyond the fasting period, stressing that true faith must be reflected in service, compassion, and responsibility.
Shettima commended the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Sheikh Abdulwaheed Suleiman Abubakar, for his leadership during the Tafsir and noted the role such gatherings play in promoting ethical leadership and national cohesion.
Earlier, the cleric had prayed for peace, stability, and the success of government policies, urging all leaders to govern with the fear of God.
