The Anambra State Government has paraded a Nnewi-based native doctor, John Paul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmou Mmili Afulu Anya,” for allegedly violating the state’s Homeland Security Law through suspected money ritual practices.
According to a report by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), the suspect was apprehended by operatives of Agunaechemba Security Outfit, a security task force established by the administration of Chukwuma Soludo to combat criminal activities in the state.
The suspect was later taken to his mansion in Nnewi, where security operatives conducted a search and demanded explanations regarding his alleged activities.
Speaking during the parade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, stated that the native doctor was accused of luring young men and women with promises of quick wealth.
According to him, the suspect allegedly instructed followers to bathe in a stream located behind his residence as part of rituals meant to make them wealthy — an act authorities say violates the state’s Homeland Security Law.
Emeakayi noted that the suspect had previously been warned to desist from such practices but allegedly continued with the activities despite the warning.
He explained that following preliminary investigations, the suspect would be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution if found guilty.
Meanwhile, the native doctor admitted to dredging the river behind his house and said he believed he had rights over it. He also apologised to the Anambra State Government and residents for his actions.
“I was ignorant of the law,” Ezenagu said, pleading with Governor Soludo and the people of Anambra State to forgive him.
He further promised to desist from such acts and assured authorities that he would not engage in any activity capable of polluting the river or violating the state’s security regulations.
The arrest forms part of the Anambra State Government’s ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, ritual practices, and other acts considered threats to public safety under the Homeland Security Law.
