President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG) to immediately deploy about 100,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kits across the country as part of efforts to cushion the effects of rising fuel prices on Nigerians.
According to a report by NTA shared on X, the directive was issued when the President received the chairman of the initiative, Ismaeel Ahmed, during a meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the meeting, Tinubu requested an update on the progress of the CNG programme and the steps being taken by the initiative to mitigate the potential impact of escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have contributed to volatility in global petroleum prices.
The President stressed that expanding access to CNG remains a key part of his administration’s strategy to reduce transportation costs and provide Nigerians with a more affordable and sustainable fuel alternative.
