The Anambra State Government has announced the recovery of ten oil wells that were previously credited to Delta State, a development expected to significantly boost the state’s revenue.
According a report shared by ANAMBRABROADCASTSTATION, Charles Ofoegbu, Managing Director of the Anambra State Solid Mineral Development Company and Chairman of Anambra State Petroleum Energy Resources Limited, disclosed the recovery in Awka during an interview. Stating that once the Revenue Mobilisation Commission (RMC) approves the verification report on the oil wells, Anambra State will begin receiving additional revenue from the wells located along its maritime boundary with Delta State.
Professor Ofoegbu also revealed plans for a modular refinery in Osamala, Ogbaru Local Government Area, which will produce petroleum products and diesel to serve Anambra and neighboring states, generating substantial revenue for the state.
He further noted that the government is working to recover additional oil wells currently claimed by Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Enugu States due to boundary disputes. These recoveries are expected to increase Anambra’s 13% oil derivation from the Federal Government.
In addition to oil, Anambra is expanding its mining sector. Professor Ofoegbu confirmed the opening of a kaolin processing site at Ukpor in Nnewi South LGA and plans to establish a bentonite processing plant at Achalagu, Nteje, sourcing raw materials from Umuchu and Ufuma. He emphasized that bentonite, widely used in the oil industry, will generate additional revenue.
Professor Ofoegbu added that revenue from the oil sector has contributed significantly to the achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, including infrastructure developments such as the Solution Fun City project.
